The Maryland Region Scholastic Art and Writing Awards

The Awards The Maryland Region Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running and most prestigious creative teen recognition program for students in grades 7-12. BOPA is proud to serve as the Maryland regional affiliate for this competition and support Maryland's next generation of creatives. Teens, ages 13 and up can apply in 28 categories of art and writing.

BOPA and the Awards

BOPA is the affiliate partner for the Awards in the state of Maryland. We are responsible for administering the Awards at the local level which includes promoting the Awards to students and educators throughout the state, organizing the adjudication process for nearly 3500 submissions of art and writing, and producing a regional ceremony.

Regional recognition includes Gold Key awards, Silver Key awards, and Honorable Mentions. Gold Keys are automatically forwarded for consideration at the national level of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Five submissions from the region are nominated each year for the American Visions and Voices medal, and one of those works is awarded a national American Visions and Voices medal.

The Scholastic Awards requires year-round engagement with schools, educators, arts organizations, and students. BOPA staff goes above and beyond to ensure that we are supporting the next generation of visual artists and writers.
