Communities Thrive Organizational Project Grant

The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is excited to announce the Communities Thrive Organizational Project Grant to support small and mid-sized arts organizations in the production and presentation of artistic works, in all disciplines, accessible to the general public within the City of Baltimore. This program is made possible with the support of the Maryland State Arts Council. Project Grants support — in whole or in part — specific arts projects that demonstrate originality, vision, and benefit or interest to the community. Grant awards support projects for organizations and community groups that work in a wide array of artistic disciplines including performing arts, media arts, visual arts, literary arts, and music arts. This grant program also supports online arts projects.

This grant program also supports online arts projects.

Applicants may apply for a $5,000 project grant for arts/cultural activities taking place in Baltimore City between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. Note: All activities associated with project grant requests for funds must take place in Baltimore City.

 

Who Can Apply

  • Arts and/or cultural organizations, and community groups with 501(c)(3) status located in Baltimore City, Maryland.
  • Cultural organizations/community groups that utilize a 501(c)(3) fiduciary organization.

 

Applicants MUST

  • Be a designated 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organization and/or community group with an annual operating budget less than $300,000.
  • 501(c)(3) arts and cultural organizations and/or community groups that have been operating for more than two (2) years.
  • Provide either Independently Certified Audited or Reviewed Financial Statements for FY20 and FY21 for their annual budget.
  • Have a Certificate of Good Standing certifying that the applicant is a registered nonprofit corporation in good standing in the State of Maryland.

 

WHO MAY NOT APPLY

  • Individual artists/creatives.
  • Organizations that have received a Communities Thrive Organizational Project Grant within the last 12 months.
  • Units of government, including K–12 school districts.
  • Public colleges and universities; libraries.
  • Private K‐12 schools; private libraries.
  • Organizations that are the primary responsibility of a government agency.
  • Organizations that are not in good standing with BOPA and/or not in compliance with previous grants.

 

FUNDING RESTRICTIONS:

Communities Thrive Organizational Project Grants cannot be used for the following:

  • Religious ceremonies or events advancing or inhibiting a particular religious ideology.
  • Fundraising or advocacy of specific political causes or candidates.
  • Capital improvements (facilities and equipment).
  • Agent’s fees for programs contracted through commercial agencies.
  • Travel outside of the United States.
  • Projects outside of Baltimore City.

 

GRANT TIMELINE

Application Opens — April 3, 2023

Application Closes — May 13, 2023

Review Period — May 15–June 3, 2023

Applicants Notified — June 9, 2023

Final Reports Due– June 1, 2024
