The Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize Finalists Exhibition

The 18th-Annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Art Prize, which awards a $30,000 fellowship to assist in furthering the career of a visual artist or visual artist collaborators living and working in the greater Baltimore region, opens in July with a finalists’ exhibition at the Walters Art Museum. The three finalists selected for this year’s competition are Kyrae Dawaun, Nekisha Durrett, and Abigail Lucien. Their work will be on view from July 19 through September 3. The winner of the 2023 Sondheim Art Prize, chosen by this year’s jurors, will be announced during a special reception and award ceremony at the museum. Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts (BOPA) will also award two residencies to finalists not selected for the Sondheim Art Prize: a six-week, fully funded residency at Civitella Ranieri in the Umbria region of Italy and a six-month residency at the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower in Baltimore.

Bromo Open Studio and Clock Tour

Every Saturday From 11am-4pm

Join us today from 11am-4pm for our Open Studio and Clock Tour and view solo exhibitions for three rising Baltimore artists at the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower. Come see the work of artist Anysa Saleh @anysasalehart , painter Greg Fletcher @greg.fletcher.148 and photographer Schaun Champion @schaunchampion in Bromo's historic galleries If you can't make it today and would like to view the Emerge exhibit please make an appointment with curator at ksbutts@promotionandarts.org During the public access weekend, guests will have an opportunity to view artwork throughout the building — including all 15 floors of working artist studios and special exhibitions. Many of the building’s artists will be on site so you can see their works in progress and learn about their processes. Admission to the galleries, artist studios, and museum is free. Emerge “This Is Baltimore Too”

Join us at the Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower for the captivating "This Is Baltimore Too" exhibition, an extension of the renowned Emerge Baltimore series. From June 22nd to September 24th, immerse yourself in the historic galleries and discover the incredible works of rising artists. Step into the multimedia world of Qrcky, where the fusion of Black diaspora sensibilities and urban spaces takes center stage. With a contemporary and mesmerizing approach, Qrcky's pieces, predominantly in black and white, invite contemplation and exploration. Delve into the abstract figure paintings of Damani Washington, a Baltimore native whose artistic journey took a unique path. Despite facing health challenges while studying at the Savannah Institute of Art and Design, Washington embraced his role as a stay-at-home dad, raising his autistic daughter. Over 15 years of nurturing and devotion, he has created a collection of images that are both breathtaking and haunting, unraveling a deeply touching narrative of a father's love, understanding, and profound patience. Experience the powerful works of Murjoni Merriweather, whose sculptures and video art aim to challenge and dismantle stereotypes. As a Black woman artist, Merriweather recognizes the potency of art as a means to create dialogue and understanding surrounding Black culture. Join us in celebrating these artists and their unique perspectives as they use their talent to shape conversations and transcend boundaries. "This Is Baltimore Too" invites you to engage with art that captures the essence of the city and challenges conventional narratives.
